Should the Commander rules be changed? That has been a hot topic recently. Many members of the Magic community have differing opinions about this, and here is our’s.

It’s important to note that right now the Commander format is a healthy format. It is one of the fastest-growing and most popular MTG formats right now. So, should the Commander rules be changed? That is a question that deserves a lot of conversation with great care to answer. Commander shouldn’t be changed for the sake of progress, but rather to enhance the format.

As far as we can tell, this recent hot topic was started by a podcast episode from Mark Rosentwater’s Drive To Work podcast released on February 7th. Though Rosenwater is not part of the Commander Rules Committee, he is regularly asked his opinion about the format. He makes it clear in that episode that those are only his opinions and does not reflect any current changes being proposed by the Rules Committee. We need to keep that in mind.

Nonetheless, in this episode the crew from Cycle and Dredge discuss their opinion on potential Commander changes, whether they could be good or bad for the format, and why.
